I liked all the characters here—the strange amalgam of people that are Sam’s family, all touched by the horrors of war, Indian kidnappings and a grandfather’s brutality.
…Five Card Stud seems like a good plot for an episode of Lonesome Dove. All the elements of an old west adventure are here and well-presented at all levels.”

Sivad’s main characters were so endearing…How the two…became a family is quite a compelling storyline. The myriad of supporting characters… helped the book become the winner that it is.
As you can tell, I love this book. The sensuality was simplistic, but not boring. It was told in the way 1882 would have viewed things. Her ability to stay true to the historical aspects helped make the book the hit it is. I highly recommend it.”
